Supporting families through difficulties

Family Support Worker

My name is Mrs Walsh, and I am the Family Support Worker at St Peter’s. My role is to provide support, advice and information to the families within our school community. I can help you with any worries that you may have in relation to your child’s wellbeing or if there is a tricky situation at home that you feel we need to be aware of. I am also here as someone to talk to if you need it and can help with signposting to other services in the local area. I may not have all the answers, but hopefully I can help you to work out how to find them and support you in the process.

My working hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8.30-11.30 and you can contact me by phoning the school office or by email on fsw@stpeters-leatherhead.surrey.sch.uk

Unless I have a prior commitment I will on the school gate at drop-off time on these mornings if you would like a chat or just to put a face to a name.  I look forward to being able to support our St Peter’s families.

Foodbank referrals

If you feel that your family are in crisis, or would benefit from a Foodbank voucher or other support, please contact us. We will be able to direct you to support and can advise on what is available. All conversations are held without judgement and in confidence.  When you contact us to request support from the Foodbank, we need to know:

  • how many people are in your family?
  • do you have any allergies?
  • do you have pets?
  • do you need nappies? (which size)
  • do you need feminine hygiene products?

The link to our local Foodbank network is here

Crisis Fund

The Catholic Children’s Society operates a Crisis Fund which provides immediate financial support for families facing a crisis in their lives.  Parish Priests and Headteachers can apply to this fund on behalf of a family.

The Crisis Fund provides immediate financial support for families where a relatively small amount of one-off funding can make a lasting difference. Many families find themselves in traumatic situations completely outside of their control.  One diagnosis/fire/redundancy/death can cause their whole world to unravel.  Without appropriate support these families can face serious hardship and find themselves in a downward spiral. Crisis Fund support can make a huge difference to families in desperate situations when they have nowhere else to turn.

If you think the Crisis Fund could help your family please get in touch for a confidential chat.
