Speaking and Listening

We believe strongly in ensuring that our teaching is 'language rich'. We use 'Communicating the Curriculum' to help us assess and support our children with their speaking and listening. Any children with any difficulties are identified and given support needed with our 'Speech and Language specialist teaching assistant'. We provide children regular opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills through debates, presentations and a 'No Pens Day!'

We have a strong focus on securing subject specific vocabulary. This is taught throughout each of our topics as well as through the use of retrieval books. These are intended to revisit and practise taught vocabulary. We use knowledge organisers for Science, Geography, History, Art and DT that are sent home each half-term for children to practise this vocabulary at home too.
